Brand new posters of Chak De are over the Mumbai city skyline. There is a small difference in the first promo released in the theatres to these slick hoardings and the new series released on television. The girls in the movie have been unceremoniously dropped. And Shah Rukh makes his presence felt.
They eleven or was it fourteen girls (actually does not matter) were proudly presented in the video cum promo in the world wide release of Jhoom Bara Bara. There was a world wide out cry over how bad that particular promo was. So bad was the reaction that YRF got the promo removed from the theatre in three days. But luckily not all is going wrong for Yash Chopra camp, nobody went in to see Jhoom so they got ample time to correct their latest gaffe. And this way not many saw the first bad promo of Chak De.
With three movies failing to make an impact on the balance sheet. Yash Chopra have returned back to the card that always works Shah Rukh Khan. So they may have their Dhooms, Hum and tums but when it comes to raking in the moolah you have to shove the hockey sticks where it forces the audiences to pay up pronto. And Yash Raj has learned that lesson quickly. They are making amends and it shows.
Hope the move to throw hockey team out of a hockey team film proves fruitful to the Yash Raj company. Hope SRK magic works for them yet again. Hope all the girls acting in the movie get acting career after this flick. Hope Indian hockey gets little attention in all this hype and hoopla. Hope women’s hockey in this country makes a comeback…actually there is a lot of hope in the last para I have typed. That’s all Yash Raj is counting the Friday Chak De releases.

Raking in the moolah? Public, please pay pronto?
Oh, I could add the one or other "hope" here!
Hope next time some professional at YRF will hit on the notion that eight minutes presenting sixteen girls (yes, numbers do matter if they get too high)DOES get a little long winded - before releasing it.
Hope they will never again make potential moviegoers buy a licence to watch the promo on their site (pay and wait for three days, then type in a number, *grrr*) Which is why many more people did not see it, just as well that Pepsi has not started selling their ads.
Hope that this all too blatant money raking will not spoil the Khan magic!
I can't belive they screw that up! I mean they are professinals, they should know that the promo is the teaser to make people go an see the movie! An know they have to pull Shah Rukh Rabbit out of their hat again to put it right and he will, I am sure (bad wordplay I know :))
Hey Lotta, they made people buy a licence to watch the promo?!!! Is that normal? Never heard anything like it :o
Yes, Iris, they did! It was up on their homepage from July 15th onwards. Some people in my forum bought the license and still had difficulties to download it - after day of waiting! No, it is not normal at all. And many people were just ******off because fans usually buy everything, well unless they feel as abused as in this case.
That´s the thing,Lotta: "fans usually buy everything",and real fans watch every film of their favourite. So, for them it doesn´t matter if the promo is good or bad, they are going to see it all the same.
And let´s face it, what better can happen to a film, before his release, then talking a lot about it! I´m sure all the more talking all the more viewer and maybe YRF isn´t so unprofessional like all critics think...;-)
It´s all happing with this film. First the promo is to long at get taking of the Screen, because one cinema who favors Big B makes a big tobawo in the papers. Next is the promo cost money, when you want to download it of the YRF site. I can see their point. Their want to stop pirate downloads, but I think their went the wrong way about it.
Next is the fire, where the only edit finish copy gets damage. All the film until now have bomb his year for YRF.
The second promo of Chak De! India looks really good. I can´t see it been not a hit at the boxoffice. But this year a lot of films bomb, which really noboby expected to bomb.
I have my Chak De uk Premiere Tickets in my room
but I have to comment that the first promo nearly murdered my anticipation however the rest have been more fruitfull.
Which is why I purchased my Tickets.
I also liked the fact that when SRK attended the Asian Lifestyle Show in London he kept low key about the release & Mushtaq man was he looking gorgeous or what!
Can you find out what potion he has been taking since his painfull surgery? (I felt the pain while he was suffering).
All the best for Chak De & Keep on penning yaar!
lol tara:)
